George Moore, age 40, of Freeport, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular assault and related charges in Nassau County Court on Wednesday, Nov. 13, in connection with a wreck on the Meadowbrook State Parkway.

Prosecutors said Moore was driving with a female passenger in a Mercedes going northbound while on his way to work in Queens on Aug. 4, 2023.

He admitted he was drunk and driving aggressively when he crashed into a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the center lane of the parkway.

The impact sent Moore’s vehicle slamming into the center divider before it crashed head-on into a tree on the right shoulder. The car overturned and became engulfed in flames.

His passenger suffered serious injuries, including fractures to her wrist, foot, and spine. The driver of the Jeep suffered injuries to her lower back, shoulder, and knee.

Moore was hospitalized with a broken pelvis, a broken arm, and a broken leg.

An investigation found that Moore had consumed alcohol at multiple bars in Rockville Centre before the crash. He surrendered to New York State Police months later, on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

“George Moore was heavily intoxicated after a night out in Rockville Centre but nevertheless got behind the wheel of his Mercedes, speeding along the Meadowbrook State Parkway and putting countless lives at risk,” said Nassau County DA Anne Donnelly.

“As a sworn law enforcement officer, George Moore should have known the threat he was on the road that night and the damage he could cause.

"His selfishness and reckless disregard upended the lives of two innocent women and landed him on the wrong side of the law.”

In court Wednesday, Moore pleaded guilty to the following counts:

  • Aggravated vehicular assault (felony)
  • Two counts of assault (felony and misdemeanor)
  • Aggravated driving while intoxicated (misdemeanor)

He faces up to three to six years in prison when he’s sentenced in January 2025.
